Lake Brownwood Dance Hall
Tucked in the lake's northeast corner, behind the lily pads and cattails, is a classic 1930s style dance hall. A man who played "the silver Palace" in the Big Band Era has become a historian and here is what he has found.
Silver Palace Dance Hall
The history of the Silver Palace Dance Hall, located on Lake Brownwood in Paw Paw Michigan is rather sketchy but recent research indicates it was built in 1932 by the Amster family. The building still exists.
The 3,600 square foot dance floor was laid from maple trees harvested and milled near Traverse City before shipping to the construction site.
Popular attractions were local POLKA bands and traveling Big Bands. The present owners tried to reopen the facility for weddings and party events but the township would not issue a permit.
Traveling Big Bands would stay over at the Dykman House Hotel located on the main corner in the village of Paw Paw. This original building was completely remodeled in 2006.
